Next Generation Talent Acquisition Meetup Recap

Last week we had an amazing opportunity to sponsor the Next Generation Talent meetup run by TalentMinded. The meetup attracted a great turnout from Toronto’s HR community and this meetup was themed Cool Tech Start-up Vs. Big Enterprise.

The discussion around this topic were well thought out and it was really beneficial hearing from both sides of the spectrum in regards to their perspectives on HR processes and how they view HR Tech.

Unsurprisingly, the topic generated a unified passion for acquiring and retaining the right people and it was particularly interesting to hear the challenges and talent strategies for both types of organizations. 

The speakers panel included Steve Know from GE, Karen Blakey from Questrade, Rob Catalano from WorkTango and Chris WIegand from Jibestream who provided their insights, successes and challenges on finding and keeping talent in the tech industry.

I had a chance to speak and discussed Xref’s new white paper which revealed some eye-opening insights about 1000 recent job-seeking candidates and their job seeking experiences. The research revealed that 7 in 10 candidates admit to exploiting flaws in reference checking process, 42% deliberately lied to their potential employer and 23% asked a referee to lie on their behalf. Pretty startling figures if you ask me, especially from candidates that have passed through the interview process and are at the “finish line.”

To wrap up my presentation and to demonstrate my confidence in the Xref platform in protecting businesses against candidate fraud, we gave away free Xref trials to all attendees so that they can experience seamless and secure automated references for themselves.
